Door to door literally means door to door! In my old job I used to have door to door sales guy always trying to get me to use their phone service. It's a tough job... I couldn't do it.

What type of car would you expect a door-to-door salesman to get?

    Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Sounds like the phonewatch guys that I keep turning away at the door. They call round every few months.

Sales is a very tough gig, and dispite the shelves full of "Become a Sales Master" book, I never found a direct theory but I did pick up great tips when I was doing it, under the correct guidence of course.

However this might be a good time to be selling this product.
Employment goes down, crime goes up! :(
So maybe not right now but within a few months I would expect the amount of burgularies commited to increase.

But give it a shot..... Jobzajob!!!

I can sell something I believe in, but if I have doubts, I can't do it...

That's why I think I'd be a great car salesman (I love cars) but would be dreadful working for a company like Eircom...

you see Eoin, this is the kind of pox reply that happens all the time here on boards and takes the easy going vibe away here.

It is an ok job. You don't just head off and knock on any old doors you get a list every two weeks and you spend your time trying to catch those people at home and then when you eventually get to talk you have a strict set of rules you need to adhere to when selling.

I did it for about a while a number of years ago. As stated by other posters it is tough, but it is rewarding in that you never have the same day twice. You work 12 - 8 daily but this is very much in your control - if you are bringing in the numbers each day nobody bothers about you.

The money isn't stellar but it beats the dole and you are pretty much master of your own destiny.

As staff turnover is high you move up the pegs quite quickly and get to more family friendly hours if you hit the b2b sales team or hit managerial level.

Is this selling Phonewatch or phone/broadband?

I used to work winback with Eircom, that's where you go to customers who have left and try and win them back (go figure)...

To be honest it's not a bad job at all....

Start off with 2 weeks training in a hotel in Dublin, if you live outside Dublin then you're put up in the hotel.

When you start the job you're ''training'' for the first week or two, you have to see someone make 5 sales and then you have to get 5 yourself before you go off on your own.

I started off in a Berlingo and then got a Corolla, however before I left I was told they would not be putting more reps in cars (choice of corolla or focus).

You're given leads at the start of each week and then off you go to your area. The target when I was there was 3 sales a day. Whether or not you meet your target depends on the area you're working, some are harder than others. Your hours are supposed to be 12-9, but if you have 3 sales by 1pm then you can just head off home if you want.

It can be a tough job, however if you're a good salesmen and willing to put the work in then you can make a good bit of money. I think the basic is 25k, but if you're getting 15+ sales a week then you're looking at an added 20k plus a year, when you add this to the fully expensed vehicle, lunches and phone bill (mobile and home) then it's a very handy job.

As for the actual work, it's not as bad as you think. People are generally nice.

All in all, it's a good job, but you have to make the most of it.

A person’s willingness and certain skills are helpful to become a successful salesman. I personally respect door-to-door salesman, as it takes a lot of courage to knock on an unknown person’s door to sell the products. The Secret of Successful sale is to first learn the process and stages of both buyer and seller simultaneously and apply accordingly your sales skills. This will boarden your understanding and develops your selling skills.
