Pricing against thermal imaging

Gave a guy a price yesterday to do a BER on an existing house and he asked me do I do thermal imaging with that. I told him that thermal imaging isn't part of it, just surveying the house and taking measurements. He told me that he had received two ther quotes from assessors who had included thermal imaging with their cert. I told him that their cert would be no different to mine and got the job because I was cheaper. Just wondering if anyone else has come accross this or does and are these guys just doing this to add perceived value to the cert or to try and give a better all round service???

I got a guy to do a cert who didn't do the thermal imaging but since the thing on Matt Cooper last week talking about the thermal imaging I've been wondering if there's added value to having that done too and a few have asked if the thermal imaging was used

We do BER, we offer it to our clients but they pay for the luxury of it. The equipment costs money and we dont survey houses with it for free.

I can see the advantages of thermal imaging if somebody actually wishes to improve the energy usage of their house (as opposed to just their BER).

Finding cold bridges and air leaks and plugging them will have practical advantages but will make no difference to the BER.

So they go around with some imaging tool and it tells them where there are air leaks etc?

What sort of tool does that?
