Is this more hassle than its worth?

Ok, over the last week or so a thought has occured to me, I'm thinking of selling my car (an 06 Alfa 147) and buying something considerably cheaper.

Ok, I brought the car in from the UK in June for €14k cleared, and at the time the avg price on carzone for these were 19k ish. So lets say they were shifting for 17.5/18.

I brought my car into a garage a couple of weeks ago and they said they would give 11k for on a trade in, so I could put mine on carzone for say 13k, and buy something (anything) for around 2k (realistically anywhere between 2-6k, just somehting which is clean/good value), bank the rest and buy back something similar to what I have now in a couple of years.
A similar car to import from the UK today would be 13.5k. The VRT on them is very high for the size of car (nearly 200 co2's) so in a way that makes the UK market less of a threat than is the case to many other marques.

My thinking is that while car values have fell through the floor since in the 7 months I have owned mine, as I got a pretty good deal on mine when I bought it, the depreciation on my own has been resistant to that somewhat.

To be honest while I like the car I have alot, I wouldnt mind driving around in something older or whatever for the next while.

I know alot of people are doing similar things at the minute, but I would imagine my case would be different than most, as I am not doing it out of financial necessity, but rather just tyring to lessen the effects of the massive depreciation all cars will face over the next 2 years or so.

What are your thoughts on the idea?

    Is it worthwhile?

    Thanks

Why do you think you'll get 2K more in a private sale?

The cheapest one I can see on carzone at the minute has an asking price of €12,995 (minus the obvious scam 147 going for €6k). That is from a dealer who is offering a warranty and before a straight deal discount. I reckon given the current climate you would be doing well to sell it for around €11,500 imo going on that.

However I'm not in the trade or an expert so this is only my opinion, you may well get more for it.
