Renault Clio Monaco 1.2 or Ford fiesta 1.25 (Steel)

Which car is better the Monaco is lovely but seems 'heavier to driver, espically compaired to the fiesta.

    Fiesta has 'zip'

    Can anyone compair for me?

Tough one for me personally. I driven both. I enjoyed the handling of the Fiesta but for comfort, I'd have to go with the Clio. I much prefer the weightier feel to it as opposed to the more "lively" Fiesta.

There's also the perceived niggling problem with Renault reliability. So it's a choice between the head and the heart. Heads for the Fiesta, heart for the Clio.

Best of luck with your choice.

TBH there probably wont be much to the Clio in reliability terms. Plus the Clio would be a more modern design.

Clio's aren't the worst residual wise

Are you looking at new or used?

If you are thinking new the brand new fiesta is very cute and sporty looking although I'm not sure of what kit it comes with, it still only has a 2 yr warranty as far as I know. The Clio is gorgeous and has a 3 yr warranty and air con on the Monaco which is an absolute must have for me!!!

If you are looking at used then bear in mind that the Fiesta has just been replaced with a newer model so that might effect the residual value.

Best of luck, let us know what you decide.

Has to be used. There's no new model Fiesta Steel.

Used - 2007s for both (well compairing both at a 2007 year)

dont think the Clio Monaco i was looking at is a turbo.

One concern is - Im looking around and they all have really low milage??? Any reason? Are ppl buying them and getting rid of a year or so later as they dont like them or is it a geuine trade for a newer car do you thing?
But then again a 2007 car wont usually be up in th 30 - 40 k miles

I think most times smaller cars are used for school runs and short trips whereas a bigger/main car is used more for longer journeys and at weekends

Im leaning to the Clio monaco - cause i think its so pretty (yup, im a girl) but then i will miss out on the fiesta engine. I noticed the difference when test drivin the renualt i must say though!

I need more pros and cons because i know tomorrow i will be leaning on the fiesta. I cant imagine the clio will be there much longer

Are you buying with cash, go and find a UK 1.2 Turbo 100 TCE, thats a cracker of a car, and would make dust of the fiesta.

    Heres a really nice one..

Another one here in Liverpool, just a short flight or ferry trip..

No, it's not. I drove one for 500km in Germany and only discovered it had a turbo about three months afterwards. There's so little boost you'd never know it was there, and all it does is keep engine size down/performance on a par with a 1.4 for emissions reasons. I'm not saying it might not be a hoot for younger drivers after some choice mods, but don't expect an old skool SAAB 900 Turbo boot-in-your-back. The handling in them is also disappointing compared to Clios of old.

I'd go with the Fiesta, bangernomics doesn't get much better than the blue oval.

My boyfriends dad has now said that if im paying €10k on a car i could get a much nicer one? Plus i should fiance it and not clear out the savings. I hate the idea of DD's every month

    Head is melted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

    Small car choices are.....?

    Fiesta Steel 1.25
    Clio Monaco 1.2

Fiat Punto (dont like look of)
Fiat Grand Punto (i was told to stay away from Fiat altogether)

VW polo - Im undecided if i like....

Anything else? I dont know what to do  and i dont have the leisure of taking my time as i have no car at the moment

Apologies, the Clio is reliable enough. It would be more comfortable than the Steel too as they have big enough wheels for the car and ride pretty firmly
