Recommend a route - southside to Finglas

I know this has been done a thousand times before, but this is slightly different to what I've found on previous threads, I swear!

I want to try a route this weekend from the southside, to over beyond Finglas. I've never cycled through town before so haven't a clue which way to go.

When I drive, I go Leeson street - Fitzwilliam place - Holles Street - Pearse Street - Tara Street - Gardiner street - Dorset Street - Whitworth Road and then out past Glasnevin cemetary. Or sometimes I go via High Street, Church street and through Phibsborough.

Obviously I could just do the same on the bike, but if anybody has any other recommendations I'd appreciate it. It could be from either Leeson Street or Merrion Road. It won't be rush hour (more likely middle of the day at the weekend) but I'm still fairly nervous!

    Thanks

    Hey -

What I used to do when I started cycling was head through town via the Park and cycle up to the Grand Canad docks area, through to Ballsbridge via Lansdowne rd, turn left at some stage to Sandymound strand and cycle along there to Dunloaghaire, have a peaceful rest, try avoiding the seaguls and cycle home.

If you do that from Finglas, you could arrive via Glasnevin cimetary road (?)

Totally out of topic ... how is the new girly saddle?

All the routes out that way are busy enough. I'd stick with what you're familiar with. Avoiding phibsborough is a good idea, it's a mess cycling through there.

Thanks folks, will give it a go soon and see how I get on.

@Caroline - new girly saddle (Specialized Jett) had its first outing this morning, and I'm pretty happy with it. Thanks for the recommendation :)

The route OP takes by car (Gardiner St/Whitworth Rd) avoids the worst part of Phibsborough - Doyle's Corner.

It founds like OP is doing a reverse commute so it should me much easier than going with all the traffic.
