Apple Shop on O'Connell St - I am taking bets!

Surprised I was, to say the least, when walking down O’Connell St at the weekend to see a new Apple Shop opened beside BT’s. Now, not saying that Limerick doesn’t need a few upmarket shope, but realistically, when people don’t seem to be spending on the cheaper basics how long can it possibly last.

I give it two months!!! Any takers! Any other guesses on how long it'll be there?

Apple shops only work if they're done like official Apple shops - destinations with regular tutorials, expert tech help etc.

If it's just a normal shop that specialises in Apple products what's the point? You can buy online and get greater customisation and relatively quick delivery. Or you can go to an official Apple store in Belfast and save hundreds on the price of a computer, laptop etc.

Bought a Mac Book there last week for work. They offer regular free tutorial sessions, and have engineers to hand to answer any questions that people have. Definitely Apple only, too.

Are they not CompuB who were on Henry street?

They have also had great instore advice and techies available to the public.

I thought they had just moved location from their old Limerick store. They have been in Limerick for years now and always done well.

I bought my GF an IPOD on Apples own website and it was delivered within 48 hours. The reason I bought from them is that they will gift wrap it and engrave the ipod for free which cannot be done in any store.

They didnt do it in the store so the store lost the business. oh well.

Negetive atitude from the OP, if you have`nt lost your job and your mortgage has gone down why not buy an Apple if thats your bag!

Limerick isn`t gonna shut for business because a few houses ain`t selling:rolleyes:

Where did I mention houses not selling???

Brulee's closed, Vodafone pulling out of O'Connell Street, countless premesis up for rent etc etc

Alll i am saying is that things are not looking good for Limerick & I have my doubts that a high end computer shop will last considering the deals you get on the web - & I am not talking of buying from UK websites.

Saw a laptop at the weekend in Click in the Crescent - HP Pavillion,€649. Looked in up on the web, €452 from laptopsdirect.ie. Fair enough, they may source from outside Ireland but it is not surprising that shops are struggling

Stores from the UK opened up here during the boom period and now the boom period is gone they are going to(rightly) look after their own which is the UK stores.

Barratts Cruises Street closed down for this reason and most others seem to have gone into receivership/examinership or all those others legal terms for getting out of jail free cards.

Apple use this high street store for market placement. Boutique stores in airports like Hugo Boss, Louis Vitton etc etc are not there to make a profit but are simply there to promote their stock. Most are considered external marketing agreements and if they turn a profit then great.

Shocked at that bit...the recession is a LOT more serious than just a few houses not selling. People are loosing their jobs all over the place and businesses are closing down left right and centre. This is much bigger than just a few houses not selling. Lots of things like apples and such are and will be outside most peoples reach before very long at all imo
