I've been back on my bike, mostly commuting to work and back sadly, for a couple of months. I want to start building up distances at the weekend. Maybe starting off around 40k building up to longer distances and more midweek spins. My fitness is, err,..not what it was, but is definitely improving. I'm not using a raod bike, just a hybrid at the moment. This may change in the summer.

Suggestions for routes in the Dublin zrea (i live pretty centrally), ..anyone in the same boat and wants come along ?

If this isn't the right forum send me elsewhere !

The lads and lassees usually organise weekend spins and while I've yet to go on one it sounds very open to new comers.

Boards spins are very friendly but it can be hard to avoid doing less than 70km on them.

So you might want to get a few 40-50km rides under your belt first.

I'm in Dublin 15 but might join you if we can work out some good routes.

You're more than welcome to come on a Saturday Spin -all abilities and types of bike catered for -we don't even laugh at how Euro or not your outfit is :)

If you want routes, the Pheonix Park is always nice for doing laps in (though can be a little boring). If you like hills, head out through Dundrum to Enniskerry, and then you can go up towards Glencree and Sally Gap.

A nice training route I regularly use is this one

If you want to go flatter, through the park and out Castleknock way towards Meath, nice quiet roads out there and some good cycling

Don't forget about Howth. Very popular with cyclists and a great place to get a work out.

    Hi and welcome.
For 40-50k spins, you could try out to Clane/Kilcock/Naas via Phoenix Park Leixlip, Maynooth.
Nice and flat for a return to fitness and building up the milage.

Once you get that under the belt, just extend it each week by 10/20km or so. In a month or 2 you will be heading out on 100km up the mountains no bother at all.

Thanks, i think i'll work my way up to a Saturday Spin. Thinking of City Centre to Howth and back going round Howth via that pub on top of the hill.
