    any ideas on whats wrong..

Car won't start at all, turn the key and just here a clicking sound from under the bonnet, had AA out yesterday and with jump kit the car started first time, let it run for 30 minutes with no lights, radio on etc to charge the battery then drove for another 30, then let it run for another 20 with nothing drawing from the battery.

Switch off and then straight away try to switch on and nothing at all....is it simply the battery is gone, car is 3 years old and wouldn't expect battery to go....any ideas

I had to replace the starter in my 3 yr old mazda 3 there last month. It usually started for me by push starting it.

I take gater that its not turning over at all. Probably the battery or starter motor would be the obvious problems but shoudnt wont be too major.

    car is 3 years old

    under warranty.

battery is dead imo, on newer mazda's, running the car doesnt charge the battery.

really? that is a bit of shocker if it doesnt. How is the battery charged so?

well its not as black and white as that. if its been lying up for a while, and goes dead, driving around wont charge it successfully.

presuming the OP has a 3year old car i cant imagine its been lying up for too long.

if its the starter, its under warranty.

garage had a look at it and apparently its the battery...

doesn't really make sense to me as lights etc were working but they've put a new battery in it and it is sorted apparently...

You've probably got it sorted by now but I had a similar problem and it was caused by a problem with the alternator which wasn't charging the battery. The battery was fine but once started up but every time the engine was turned off the battery died as it hadn't been recharging at all. Even while the car was running with no radio/lights etc on the engine was struggling slightly cause it didn't have the power it would have had the alternator charged the battery at all.
