Fresh out of A&E and I have to say, hospital staff are the most under-appreciated people out there.

Thanks to Limerick Regional A&E department. :)

Ah yeah, sure they do a great job.

How long have you been working there now?

    Nice post OP! :)

Between Mallow and Cork I've been to hospital a few times and I've always found the staff brilliant. Irish people seem to love complaining about the health system and teh gubberment, but any employees of the Health Service I've encountered have been terrific. Especially nurses - I could never do all the dirty and often thankless jobs they have to do.

    To nurses! *raises glass*

(the glass is actually a mug of Capuccino which had best before Nov.2008 on the sachet.)

Same goes for the nureses and staff of the Crumlin hopspital where my child currently resides.
Born 10 weeks early, she is in a special care ward.
The nurses up there go above and beyond the call of duty.

She is beautifull, I hope she does ok

My twin brothers also went there for years as heart patients and I have to say the nurses and staff there are some of the nicest people on the planet

The nurses in Cork were brilliant to my Mam when she was sick, even though that was 18-19 years ago and I was only a wee baby, that's what made it harder for mam.
She can't speak highly enough of them.

Square Igloo, I think we give out about the health system in the regards of all the wards that are closed and the amount of people on trolleys in A & E. Also the lack of money(none at all now!) available for facilities and equipment in the hospitals. Not the nurses at all, they do a great job!

While I agree with you on Nurses, it's the Care Attendants that do all the dirty work, Nurse are qualified to give medication, Care Attendants change old people nappies and other nasties....
Suffice-it-to-say, I have good sources on this.

Really everyone, it was nothing! I was just doing my job!

Unless I am mistaken I NEVER heard of anyone complain about the actual care received in A&E.

The staff who are on duty are always excellent.

That however is not the problem, it's the cost of keeping them there .

60 rostered 50 in, 10 sick= another ten on overtime.

    There's your problem

    Not many people know that.

But it wasn't just your job, anyone could do WHAT you did, it was HOW you did it. You took the sick and cared them back to health. You are the shepard who tends the weak, you are the McDonalds worker who fattens the already pretty chubby, you are the taxi driver who carries the inebriated home so they don't have to drive, you are the Health Service workWAIT going in circles here....

Probably cos' some haven't produced any plausible evidence to back up quoted figures!

Most people complaining about the HSE are complaining about the huge wage costs for pencil pushers and middle management, the number of these have grow exponentially in the last 9 years. I've not heard many complaining about nurses, doctors etc. staff that actually do something.
