Peugeot 307 HDI - diesel additive level message

My sister just got this car today, it was an impulse buy. It's 2005 307 1.6HDi with 100k miles on it. She loves it, praises it, she's crazy about it and all that. And the first thing I notice is "diesel additive minimum level" message on the central console is displayed just after engine is started.

Does anyone know how will this cost to get sorted out? I read a little bit online and they say it's over 200GBP worth of damage, but this is in uk. How much our dealers/garages will ask for that 'additive' and maybe FAP filter change?

All 1.6 Hdi's have dpf's (Diesel partical filters) which Peugeot recommend the should be replaced around 100 miles with topping up the eloys fluid (additive)
I had a fault on my 407 1.6 hdi last week message ....
"partical filter regeration urgent" rang peugeot and one garage said i would need to replace the dpf and top up the additive tank..
4 new heater plugs sorted it...;)
    e.g.
A new dpf filter is around 450 euro and the eloys fluid is around 40-50 euro per litre (requires round 2-2.5 litres to top up) + 2.5 hrs labour .
    total 800-900 euro ...
some people remove the dpf's and clean them as they built up with burnt sooth ash after 90-100k ..not sure if cleaning works.

If it only needs a eloys top up a local mechanic may be able to do it.. but it may need to go to Peugeot to reset the system.
There is a kit available to top it up ..i think.
Have a look here as it have some info....

If she bought the car from a garage let them look after it ...:)

j@utis, ask the garage to topup the car with the additive.

Row, do you drive just short distances in the city. You need to go for a long drive on the motorway for the DPF regeneration to happen.

    Cheers samih,
My 407 does a mix of short and long jouneys.....:)
The dpf regenerates itself every 300-350 mls which is normal .but
if its regenerating every few days it's a sign that the filter may be getting blocked.....
If the cooling fan is running on after the engine is stoped its a sign its goin tro a dpf regeneration. The fan is used to load the engine when regening as well as cool the dpf when the engine is switched off.
The problem i had was 2 of the heater plugs had burnt out...which would not allow the dpf to go thro a regen ....:(
The heater plugs are needed when the dpf is going tro a regen to bring up the temperature to complete the regeneration....;)
