The old bike shifters are the ones the thumb shift ones (well thats what i call them). You push to the right to change up and tap to the left to change down. And unfortunatly one of them has broke from old age. I went in to the local shop and he said that they werent made anymore and recomended me a twist shift one.

I had a set of twist shift ones seize up on me in the past and i dont think there worth the money at all.

Is it true that the under-handelbar thumb shift ones arent made anymore? Whats the best alternative?

hes right and wrong........ yes gripshift are ****e, but you can still get the thumb shifters, its just he may not have carried them.

try some of the 2nd hand shops in fairview, you will get one there cheap, shimano still make them afaik, well they did up to a few years ago:)
