SATA Drive on a PC which has IDE/EIDE?

Hi, A pretty basic question - I'd like to upgrade the internal hard disk on my HP desktop - its currently a 40GB IDE disk. My question: can I get a SATA type drive to work here or do I need some form of conversion cable? Thx :)

You'll probably need a 4 pin molex to sata cable for power. For data a pci sata card should do the job. I haven't seen any ide to sata data cables about.

Another option would be a SATA - USB2 adaptor.......

sata to usb means you only get the speed of USB which is less than that of SATA
