Celtic Link Ferries

We're looking at the ferry routes out of Rosslare and based on the day we want to sail Celtic Link are the only people sailing to France. Price wise there's not much to choose between it and Irish Ferries, but Irish Ferries go a day or two later.

I know Celtic Link is a freight route with passengers accommodated rather than a passenger ferry, but can anyone comment from experience on what the service is like ? I guess it gets from here to there which is the important thing, but comments on the overall experience would be appreciated.

I have used them several times. The boat is old, but sound and fairly stable in the water. Public areas are the dining room, bar, lounge, and some deck space. There is no entertainment other than television in the bar (bring books). Food is moderately good and is included in the fare. Cabins are a good size. Sailings are sometimes late, so don't plan anything time-critical.

    I would use them again.

    P.,

Thanks for the update - it sounds like we'll be going with them. One thing - the cabins don't specifically state that they have bathrooms - do you know if they do or if it's shared ?

edit - their FAQ says that all cabins are en-suite, so that one's answered.

    Thanks,

We've used them too, quite a few times. They're every bit as good as Irish Ferries, even their 'new' boat. Two things though:

    1. space is a bit cramped and if you have small kids there is very little to keep them amused

    2. As P. said sailings can be late. On one occasion we were late leaving Rosslare and on another, the sailing itself took 3 hours longer than it should. We found they were not good on giving information about the delays.

My advise to you would be if you only have 10/14 days go with Irish Ferries, if you;re going for a longer period of time then they're fine. Don't forgat that all meals are included so you'll be saving money there too. (we found the food to be on a par with the self service restaurant on I.F.

Any of the cabins we stayed in were on-suite

Of course there's always Brittany Ferries although they're normally €300/€400/€500 more expensive.

We're going with I.F on June 26th...looking forward to it :)
