below is what I wrote in my blog about the structure, I enjoyed the weekend and will be back for the next deepstack festival.

I'm not sure about the structure TBH and certainly wouldn't like to play it every week. There is an extraordinary amount of play early but I was watching the clock closely and once it hit 50 players left it played out like any other tournament. For long periods leading to the final table the average bigblind was less then 30. So, for example at that stage of the event, the structure was actually a lot worse then the Irish Classic or JPs masters where the average bigblind never fell below 60 bigblind at any time before the final tables. I think the structure needs tweaking; a suggestion would be run a 45 minute clock for the first ten levels, then increase to 75 minute levels. I think this would bring balance to the event.

I thought the venue was grand, reminded me of a mini amazon room. Looks great in this photo, Ken C looks like he means business in the background

    1560 1545
    . .
    Day 1 1 600 585 minutes
    Day 2 2 600 600 minutes
    Day 3 3 360 360 minutes

    That looks a little complicated.
The first six columns are the 2009 levels, blinds, antes, time.
The seventh and eighth columns (Suggest; Day 2010) are what I would like to see.
The eight column (far right) is the number of rounds of the table I had this year (my stack size / cost per round at that level).

I found that after I got to the final table 3rd in chips I had very little play. When I was knocked out it was 115,000 to play a round (25000+50000+8x5000).
Average stack at the start of the final table was 855k with cost per round of 54k.
Jason Tompkins, shortstack with 419k, did well to survive and finish 2nd with at most 8 rounds of the table (less because blinds+antes rose to 115k).

My suggested structure would reduce playing time on day 1 by 15 minutes.

There were 97 players remaining after day 1 this year (level 10). My 2010 end of day 1 (level 13) would probably leave about 55 players (~ this year level 14 survivors). But if you left off the antes for most of day 1 you would retain more players, and probably get in more hands.

Probably start antes with 400+800+50 then 500+1000+100, then continue as above. The 75 ante was all about making change, and slowed play.

I'm agreeing with Nick's post. Not much wrong, just too much time early, and too little time late.

As usual JP is far more efficient than me! I was going to post up a similar thread. I would also like to take the opportunity to publicly thank JP & Christine for making my life so easy at the weekend. It is plain to see in my eyes that JP & team are the best Ireland (& possibly Europe) have to offer in the poker tournament scene. I have been to and run many poker tournaments of all levels and this tournament was the best run I have ever seen.

It should also be noted how much JP cares about the players and the integrity of the tournament. The double dealing is JP's idea and gives the players many more hands per hour than any other tournament in the late stages. This obviously costs JP a lot of extra wages and should be applauded. Also the escorting of chips and managing the chip counts and top ups is second to none. I am surprised nobody noticed the actual number of chips at the end of day one and at the final table. There were 7,700,000 chips in play, at the end of day one there were 7,699,900 in the official count. By the last chip up the count was 7,700,000 exactly.

I would also like to thank all Dani & all the dealers. I did not have one player moan about any dealers to me this tournament which is again a first.

Also a big shout out to the massage girls & lounge girls - again all down to JP.

Rory & team at the Red Cow also deserve some plaudit for looking after us at such short notice. They themselves know the exhibition center is not a great venue but they helped us make the best of a bad situation and all credit to them looking after us when their weekend was already full.

Finally a big thankyou to all the players who braved it through all the weather, changes of hotel etc to make the weekend the success it was.

The short-handed will hopefully be even bigger. There will certainly be a lot more internet quailfiers due to the smaller buy in and the fact that the satellites will be network wide on Ipoker and also that Winamax will be sending over loads of eager French players again - more than this time they are confident.

Keep the feedback coming, I know we do better with the structure. There will definately be a 2500/5000 + 500 level and I am already considering lengthening the clock.

Thanks again to all who deserve it,

    Mike Lacey

Well played on maintaining the integrity of the tournament (s)right the way through the weekend, unlike some other festivals, the side events were given the same attention to detail as the main event. There was also a great athmosphere there despite the horrible venue. If I had one complaint it was JP using the word 'recourse' on several occasions, I was blue in the face explaining to people what the word meant. Please keep it simple for these lads I can't be going around the place after you explaing the big words.

I think the reason the chip count success wasn't hugely applauded was the fact that not everyone knew it, only goes to show, when the ref is good nobody notices . It was a great example to others tournaments and I hope some of the poker writers who read here make sure it gets mentioned in the poker mags. Jp gets more professional every year and doesn't stand still Keep it up lad.

I was told by a monsieur that the French don't use the curse 'sacre bleu', similar to the way the Irish don't say 'top of the morning'. Ya learn something new every day, I still said it though when he dogged me.

I agree with the praise. Every dealer was at the same high standard. The Deepstack dealers were all polished, confident, and in command. I loved it when one of the dealers gave an explanation to a player in English and French. :)

Major kudos to Mike, JP and the team. I found the chip security measures to be an outstanding addition, and I hope they will be emulated. Thanks for another great festival!
