I was in Tesco Wilton last night.

E14 for 4 small chicken breasts.
    E20 for a 1gb sd card

In the English market in the city centre, its E10 for 10 Medium chicken breasts.
Aldi sell 2x2GB sd cards for 11Euro

    What is all this abooooooot?

Half the threads here should be moved to bargain alerts. You know it is dear, I know it is dear, the dogs on the street know it is dear, so DO NOT BUY IT, you were not being ripped off, the price was blatantly there and you knew it was expensive.

But please do keep up the advice on where to get it cheaply (and take into account the petrol, time, airplane fees etc.)

Cheap branded SD cards here http://www.mymemory.co.uk/search?searchTerm=2gb+sd&filter=SD+Cards

Got this one off an English forum I visit mate.
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/2Gb-Kingston-SD-2GB-Secure-Digital-(SD)-Card-Retail-Lifetime-Warranty

Why not post about being ripped off?
    Don't understand that.

I don't want people to get caught in the same traps and I definitely don't want to support greed.

The prices in that shopping centre last year were E7 for 4, and now its E14 for 4. Thats a 100% rip off in my eyes.

Most consumers know who their local robbers are and steer clear of them if they've got any sense.

I never visit my local Spar in Listowel, because that guy really is taking the piss with his pricing.

I never buy any computer related stuff from Tesco, with the exception of DVD sleeves, where you get 50 for €3.99, or Dual layer dvds @ 5 for €4.99 (reckon they've got the wrong price on them, but don't tell them will you:eek:). Anything else in that section, I buy a lot cheaper elsewhere, mostly on the internet.

As for crazy-priced chicken-breasts - probably cheaper at the local butcher, as probably is the rest of the meat. While some people pay over the odds and buy everything in one shop, others aren't too lazy to shop around.

Eventually the robbers (big and small) will get the message when they're having to brush the cobwebs from their tills.

You were not ripped off. You went to one shop and saw an obviously stupidly high price, then you found them at a very good price elsewhere. That should be posted in bargain alerts.

Chicken prices have gone through the roof in supermarkets for some reason. I think the cheapest in tesco is not €16 per kilo, while in my butchers I get 1.2-1.3kg for €10, i.e. 10x125g breasts.

A true ripoff would you buying 10 fillets advertised as 110-130g each in tesco, then going home and finding out they only gave you 8 and they were 90g each! and then refusing to refund you.

But in this case there is no such underhanded scam going on, no ripping off occurred. Anybody paying the price has made a concious decision that it is value for money.

I think the OP was saying that Tesco is a rip-off and gave 2 examples and prices he could purchase elsewhere. I gave up shopping there a couple of weeks ago(although I did have to use my clubcard vouchers last week..only spent 3c extra)
The prices they are charging for things are ridiculous. Loads of false special offers (I actually don't know how they get away with it) and no good offers. Prices of things that were good-ish value steadily creeping up. Prices of everything creeping up. Dunnes & Supervalu have improved loads, decent special offers to be had every week there. I know loads of people who don't shop in Tesco anymore because of this. Tesco don't seem to realise that people won't put up with the high prices anymore. The 2 examples the OP mentioned are just a prime example of it....people won't pay those sort of prices anymore

Yes, fair point, and one I did actually make myself a while back, and by coincidence it was about SD cards & "fake offers".

I was warning against fake offers, and find it strange that people fall for them. But they only have themselves to blame, and in a way I like it! I still shop in tesco, I know the price of stuff, I always have had a good memory for prices. My basket would not be as cheap if it was not for people paying over the odds for stuff.

These are still not ripoffs in my mind (hence I put it in consumer issues, I later also saw it was false advertising). There is no ripoff, if somebody buys a memory card for €20 they have made a concious decision that it was worth the price. A ripoff is going home and finding out it is 1/4 the capacity it was rated to and being refused a refund.

We refuse to shop at Tesco full stop with their lack of concern for stocking free range chickens or RSPCA approved chickens

i hardly buy anything in the south any more with the exception of meat with which i dont think you can compare like with like .i buy my meat in my local butchers and although twice the price there is no comparison in quality with cheaper outlets

    Ok, I see your point.
We have a differing definition of being ripped off.

Where should I post things of this nature?

Personally, I don't like seeing anybody getting abused like that.
I think these guys should always be named and shamed.

Who is getting abused? Smart people will shop elsewhere and walk away from ridiculously priced items. Any idiot who lacks brains or common sense will always be doomed and buy the items anyway. You are right OP the Price of the Chicken was madness but hey at least you didnt support said price and buy it. As rubadub said its not a rip off unless you buy it and it turns out not to be something that was advertised i.e his example.

Does anyone else think that these threads have become tiresome and are starting to sound like a broken record or is it just me. :D:D Simple fact Ireland is all over the place and you would be best shopping around for a deal at this point. If people shopped around more and stopped purchasing high priced items shops wouldnt go there in the first place as they would finally get it into their thick skulls we are not idiots. But as I said those who lack common sense and brains will always give supermarkets a reason to bump up prices.

disclaimer: op wasnt calling you stupid or anything just so we are clear lol

TBH I'd rather purchase Irish chickens there over those imported from the UK.

This is why I stay away from Tesco, I much prefer M+S in Merchants Key, it might be a bit dearer but the better quality is well worth it.

As someone mentioned it before I'm quite surprised how things changed at my local SUPERVALUE here price-wise now. Last year i was basicvally shopping only at TESCO and had voucher of about €40. That has dropped to just €10. All the money now goes to ALDI, SV and LIDL.

Sounds mad, shopping in SV... ;)

SV are adapting to these recessionary times, Tesco are not. Plus they are a local shop for local people....In fact my local Supervalu offers a phone-in service!! Yes, its true. You ring them up, tell them what you want, and they deliver it, you pay the delivery man.(no delivery charge) (I don't use the service myself btw) But how handy is that for people who may not be able to get to the shop for some reason or another, and don't have internet access to be ripped off by Tesco online shopping!

Hmmm me thinks we should start a Tesco bashing thread.

I am another one that has given up on Tescos. I use to do all my shopping there but have stopped shopping there in the last couple of months.

I started noticing prices on things slowly creaping up. I think a lot of people are starting to realise that Tesco's isnt as good as it seems.

I do a lot of my shopping in ALDI and Dunnes Stores have some decent offers on things.

Local butchers are best for fresh meat in my opinion, cheaper as well, and I find even cheaper than shops in the north even wih the current exchange rate. Keep your butchers in business, **** the supermarkets.

+ 1. - We are also lucky in Tralee to have a really good greengrocer who stocks locally grown veg. and potatoes as much as possible.
And IMO the fruit that he stocks is far superior to any of the supermarkets.
