They'll quote me on a Teg but not a Civic?

Just curious now but on 123.ie they quoted me on a 99 Teg Type R 1950 which was 900 quid cheaper than anywhere else, said i'd check how much a Civic Type R would cost to insure but they wouldn't quote me. Any Ideas why?! Same year so it's the 1.6 ek9.

The Teg has a bigger engine and more power, found this quite strange!

Have to say though, that crowd are cheap, 1650 on an RX7 and RX8, I'm only 22 so thats dead cheap for me! And 2400 on a TT RX7 but not on a CTR?!

€666 for me on an rx7 with them :D

anyway, the reason why you might not have been quoted on the ek9 would be there more popular so crashed more, and are stolen more too.

they may have assumed the integra was the euro model and the ek9 was the jap model, i'm not sure but i think someone said 123.ie wont insure jap imports

Did you actually select Rx-7(import) if not then I'd say it was the european version of the Rx-7 too

    EDIT:
    123.ie wrote:
    Your Car :

    1. Is registered in your name in the Republic of Ireland.

    2. You are the main driver of the vehicle and the vehicle is a private car taxed on a private basis and not used for any commercial purpose.

    3. Vehicle Value is less than €250,000 is not more than 20 years old

    4. Vehicle has not been modified from the standard specification.

    5. Vehicle has more than 2 seats (unless a sports car with a standard specification of 2 seats only) but has less than 8 seats.

    6. Vehicle is used for social domestic and pleasure purposes including commuting to and from work or use in connection with your business but excluding use for the carriage of goods or passengers for hire or reward or for soliciting of commercial orders.

They usually put it in the assumptions that the car cant be a jap import, I'm gonna send them off an email now and see if the Rx-7 I got a quote for will be covered if its and import

Yeah Im nearly sure, I've to head now but if you put in year as 95 and choose RX 7, the model will give an option of Jap import...I think

Edit...just checked there, was an option of 2300 Turbo Injection, not Jap, my bad!

You might want to get your facts right before you start posting in here.

RX7's are lovely cars, but they cost a fortune to run. They require engine rebuilds, they also have very high tax rates and aren't anywhere near as reliable as a civic type r or integra type r

    They quoted me €1600 on a teg type r and €1900 on a civic type r?! lol..€1200 on a turbo injection rx7 too :D

Weird because they wouldn't quote me at all on the civic, but the rex suprised me the most.

Wouldn't be able for the heart ache of the RX7 though, far too delicate

I didn't realise someones opinion needed to be 'fact'? New rules?

I don't think the poster made any mention of reliability or running costs other than the aesthetic looks? Therefore it would be a safe assumption to assume that it was merely a personal opinion based on the commonness of integras and civcs as opposed to rx7's.

Most Rx-7's haven't lived long enough to become common :D

looking for one myself and the choice is very limited :(

Ha theres a way to catch them out on that one, just insure a normal 1.2 and then change over the insurance to your jap car by insurance law they have to qoute you,im with quinn they said the same to me they dont cover jap cars which is total bull i told them id go to the insurance obudsman and they gave me a qoute straight away was only 300 more then what i was paying on the 306.
