A European Sun Holiday with a Difference

    Hi,

I was hoping I could get some ideas here on a 2 week European holiday that is a bit different to a Praia de Rocha/ Peurto del Carmen holiday.

Would still like to be close to a beach and for the destination to be used to tourists, but would like something more authentic/unspoilt.

I've had 2 ideas so far, 1) Tuscany, maybe flying to Pisa and travelling around via train 2) Croatia, staying in Dubrovnik or similar and then visiting some islands.

Has anyone done either of these 2 or has anyone other suggestions.

    Thanks

I've always fancied island hopping in Greece personally.

I can recommend the Dalmatian coast, I spent 3 enjoyable weeks some
years back there. We flew into Dubrovnik and spent a few nights close to
the old town before heading off up the coast to Mljet, Korcula, Hvar, etc.
Plenty of ferries operating in that area and it was easy to move between
    islands and hotels.

I would also recommend Dubrovnik, we were there for a week in 2006 and we're heading back this year, one week in Dubrovnik, one week in Montenegro.

The old town of Dubrovnik is really beautiful and lovely to walk around in the evening but you still have your regular beach/resort holiday out in Lapad (suburb) or on one of the islands. Just so you know the majority of the beaches are shingle rather than sand but this didn't bother us. You can do great day trips from there as well, we went on a tour of the islands and also to Mostar in Bosnia.
