    Hello,

I am in interested in doing a Bachelor of Arts (Hons)/Diploma in Arts
    course through DCU (http://www.oscail.ie/courses.php)

I am also weighing up my options, as i may do it through OU instead,
do you have an opinion on which would be best?

The topics I am looking at are *Psychology* (and Philosophy too).
I am looking to start a career in these/this field, so I am looking for an
accredited course that has job prospects at the end of it.

Do you guys have any advice on this?

I'd search this forum for both - there have been many threads comparing and contrasting both. Lots of people also give their opinions also :)

Watch the Psychology. Oscails degree is not accredited to the Psychological Society of Ireland although they may say it is by British Psychological Society. I have never understood this, as accreditation should firstly be achieved in the country where the degree is awarded.

The OU has BPS accred as it is a UK university and then the PSI has a mutual recognition with the BPS.

I'd give the PSI a call.

    Hi Dirty

I have also gone down the distance learning route. I had signed up with Oscail and suffered through a diploma with them ....but was never happy/never settled with the course. The course was in Information Technology but the stuff we were studying did not seem to be very up to date.... and to me, everything seemed to be done on a shoestring budget.

I looked up information on the OU and found a lot of stuff actually on Boards.ie including this post http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055320288 .

It is actually very hard to find post that criticise the standard of OU training ....which probably explains why they have 18,500 students in Ireland (180,000 students globally) .....while Oscail numbers have been dropping (on their IT courses anyway) over the last 10 years.
I have since transferred to the OU for my degree and find that i am studying cutting edge stuff like webservice programming and N range radio communications

I don't know that much about the psychology courses been offered but my advice would be to go with a IPS recognised course as this would .....I imagine, allow you to go onto postgraduate study if you ever wished to work as a psychologist ....while a degree that is not IPS recognised would not
