Insurance company is giving me €2800 and said it is waiting on thier scrappage companies to come back to them to see what they will pay for the car.

They did say i could do this myself but how hard is it and do you think i would get a better offer if i looked around myslef?

    from experience
You'll get offered a pittance from the scrappage companies through the insurance company. 250e for a 2yr old car, with perfect/undamaged engine/gearbox and chasis. You'd be able to get more from advertising in buy+sell, even ebay and selling the parts off it yourself. I'm planning on doing this my current unecomnic to repair car :-(, rather than give it to a scrappy.

2000 Fiesta. Wheels are newish as well.

I suppose i could try sell off parts myself but would need to move the car from where it is and ive no where to put it. It has a busted petrol tank and the passanger side is done in but its repairable but not worth it to the insurance company.

    Hummmm...

I wouldn't bother my barney if I was you. Are you going to take the car yourself and strip it down? How much time are you going to spend on it ? How much extra money are you realistically going to get ? What are you going to do with the bits you don't sell? I'd say let the insurance company keep it and be shot of it. IMO, you're already doing very well with 2,800 for a 00 festy. Just for the sake of it I would try haggle away with them and if you can get the total pay out over €3k, then take the money and run.

They'll most likely come back and say that the scrap offer is around €200 which they'll deduct from your pay out leaving you with a cheque for €2600 (minus excess if it hasn't already been removed). You'll then have the option of taking the cheque for €200 from their scrapper to make up the difference or looking for a better offer elsewhere.
