Transfer of Players in GAA

Can anyone tell me how a club can effectively stop a player Transferring from one club to another? Obviously it's in the rule book and I know the reasoning behind it is to stop what goes on in soccer with people joining the big teams but if a guy has a valid reason for leaving ie. only 5 or 6 lads at training etc etc, it seems petty for the club to stand in his way.
Has anyone ever taken this to the courts?? I wonder how it would stand up?

I think it has gone to the DRA and usually players loose. basically what happens then is the player takes a year out from GAA and he can sign for whoever he likes.

5 - 6 lads showing up for training..good turnout for Feb IMO mush be pushing for AFL 8 or something

As far as Im aware the club officials of both teams have to sign transfer forms for a transfer to take place although there is some sort of County Board Appeal open to players.

For a player to demand a transfer all he has to do is not play for his club for a full season and he can transfer the following season.

Would also say that these may not be completely accurate but its what Im led to believe from knowing players who have tried to transfer from one club to another

I transferred this year, and it's actually a rather simple process, though there may be some variations from county-to-county. The form you get has a space for the old club secretary to sign where it's written, "Sign here if you have no objection to the transfer", an another space saying, "Sign here if you have an objection to the transfer" with a space to give a reason too. After you lodge it with the county board, there's a period of about a week where the old club can lodge a further objection to the county board, and after that it's done and dusted.

    up?

Im not sure if training attendances are relevant, if his (or her) club is fielding a team in the competition then there would have to be another valid reason.
Guy in my year wanted a transfer to another club beacuse his club didnt have enough players to field a team for minor, transfer was going grand until original club combined with two other small clubs to field a team in minor league and so they objected to his transfer beacuse he was going to a club that they would have been playing

If a fella wants to go and play with another team why would a club stand in his way? Would any team want someone playing for them who wanted to leave. From what I have seen of the transfer system (in Dublin anyway), the clubs are just being ar*eholes and taking the line of "if he isn't going to play with us he won't be playing for anyone".

A year is a long time to be out of the game. Sure you'd get less of a ban for breaking a lads nose!! Doesn't seem right that a club can have that much control over someones career in the game.
