The economic meltdown or the polar icecaps meltdown? :D

If its the polar ice caps we will need raised firing points or change to shooting spearguns at silhouettes of fish.

If its economic then a return to bows and arrows or catapults might be in order.

The next major indication of economic collapse is when we see the speaker of the house at question time, drumming his fingers and muttering " fer fecks lads, where are ye, I told ye tae come straight back from the bar after break time".

I already see it at the practice shoots - less people turning up. Also, lads are a bit more picky about heading off to shoots in bad weather. Last year, nobody gave it a thought - now people are watching the pennies and making sure they spend their €40 wisely.

You have to wonder - is the sport healthy enough that a good sharp shock like that would get ranges putting in more work to attract more shooters, and thus drive the standards of the sport up? Or will it just kill off large sections of the sport?

My disposable income is decreasing rapidly and unfortunately shooting is gonna have to take the hit :( I don't gamble, drink or smoke. All my disposable income goes on my shooting.

Money just doesn't seem to go as far as it did. Ammo is still ridicuosly over priced. Saw no reduction since metal prices or sterling have dropped which I was told by my ammo suppliers were the reasons for high prices

With the possibilty of 3 x year licence fees and my game clubs increasing fees, insurances costs and presumably range fees rising I feel I will be reverting back to only hunting and will cease to be a member of a range just to save money :(

If things get much worse will have to reduce the number of firearms I have too :(

I can safely say that its going to be a lot harder to raise funds for my club this year with the amount of lads that are out of work in my locality.

I'm afraid I've got to wonder the same thing, bunny. My range fees are pretty safe (if not cheap to begin with) but ammo costs aren't nice at all. Having to fork out big chunks of cash every three years will sting rather a lot too. It's going to have to be a case of buying ammo in bulk for economy whenever I can get it for a nice price, and not go mad on it in practice and suchlike. As well as that, I'm putting a deposit on a new gun and want to get another in the next few years, so these are all going to be tough purchases. Hopefully the sport as a whole will band together to help dedicated shooters keep their sport and people won't be forced and and priced out of it. That would be the biggest shame of all.
