Would a data disc play fine in a regular dvd player then?

    It depends on the player.

Thought data discs were only watchable on pc/laptop? doubt regular dvd player will play that...

No, it depends on the player as already stated. I can watch avi data files and divx files on my player. Granted it's a new blu-ray player though.

With the 6GB on a 4.7GB, I doubt you'll find anything that will compress to that level so you'll probably need a dual-layer disk or split it on to two 4.7 disks using an AVI splitter as already advised.
Of course, there's no guarantee that a dual-layer disk will work in your DVD player anyway.

Download a programme called DVDShrink - it may also remove encryption on some dvds to enable you to back up your existing collection!

Try RipIt4Me as well, it sits on top of DVDShrink and DVD Decrytper (which you'll have to download also), but it'll do the job perfectly.

Go to www.mrbass.org for some sweet articles and download links to help you along your way.
