There is no drag and drop facility on the iPod Touch and due to it being a flash drive it won't show up as a device like a hard-drive based iPod might.

just to confirm, it's not because it's a flash based drive that it doesn't show up in add/remove hardware.

other flash drives do, apple have just coded into the firmware that ipod touch etc don't.

There is software though that will allow you to copy to and from the itouch exactly like drag and drop.
It's called Touchcopy as far as I can remember.

Because Apple prefer if all their users use their iPods with their own software (i.e. iTunes) as opposed to 3rd party ones to:
    a) boost the number of users of iTunes
    b) promote the iTunes Store where they can make more revenue
    c) ensure their product is being used as it was intended with their fimrware and programs, i could be wrong but i'd be pretty sure that using Rockbox, etc would void your warranty

And it's a solid-state drive. Only a limited number of write operations before it gives up the ghost. Don't want to accelerate that so that easy solution is to remove the functionality to use the iPod as a mass storage device.
