I saw these on the news last night .... the pedestrian who jumped the gate and lost his shoe was unreal ...

For those who didn't see it , the level crossing gates are down , a guy jumps the gate starts to cross realises a train is really coming and runs JUST makes it , so close that the train actually removes his shoe .

With the amount of level crossings here on the commuter routes etc Irish Rail should release the same sort of thing for sure.

Hopefully it isn't such an issue for IR. I only have knowledge of the crossings at Lansdowne and Sandymount but the crossings are closed ages before the train gets there, the trains come through very slowly and the gates are closed both sides.

There might not be such sensational images.

Most of these problems happen with automatic half barrier crossings were it is possible to zig zag your way across . I don't think there are too many left in Ireland.
Can't for the life of me understant why people run the risk

I have seen pedestrians, moped users and cyclists lift the boom and dash across at crossings in Italy.

If you saw the image yesterday , the pedestrian actually climbed over the gates ( similar to the IR ones ).

As for trains going very slowly ,they would still take a long way to stop , they are not like a car . And if you got hit by one then it would kill you .

Of course you should be able to hear /see them , but how many pedestrians now adays use Mp3 players / phones , and these sort of people don't look .

Level crossing guy who had shoes sliced off by 66mph train tells his story and wants the footage to be broadcasted as a warning.

This driver won't be taking any more chances after this "wake up" call.
I doubt if that passenger will ever be wanting any more lifts.

It's interesting that it's only the tabloids that seem concerned with this issue.

Obviously the world financial crisis doesn't appeal to their readers as much.

More likely that the editors don't want to appear to insult their readers with such "commonsence warnings".

I wonder which driver's trousers needed more cleaning.
