Accommodation in New York this summer

Ill be looking to stay in NY for maybe 6-8 weeks this summer and just wondering if anyone could tell me what my cheaper options in relation to accommodation would be. Ive been there before and stayed in a hostel but that was only for 2 weeks. Any recommendations or advice would be very grateful
