There are no SD or HD LNBFs.

    CT100/WF100/PH100 or equivalent. Avoid RG6.

Got a triax dish from satellite.ie, great quality. Try to put up a 78cm as your at it as its not that big and much better to put up for bad weather quality. Get an lnb with rain cover, easier to put in and as said above, avoid rg6 cable, pure crap.

What LNB is best to use there are so many to choose from are they all pretty much the same or are there better quality ones?

    Is this LNB any good
0.1dB Chess Edition III Quad LNB

    Product Information

    7 Year Warranty

    Gold Plated conection

    Waterproof
    DVB-S2 compatible
    40mm-Feed
    Freq. 10.70 - 12.75 GHz
    L.O. 9.75 / 10.6 GHz

    Price: €44.99

Are the Triax Dishs the best? is there much of a difference between the 64cm and the 78cm?

unless space is seriously an issue, go get the 78cm, thats the vertical part and edge to edge is less as its not a disc.
lnb looks grand, would do the job fine.
Don't forget a decent bracket for the wall, aluminium or galvanised etc so it will last

    What's wrong with RG6?

Right thinking of getting the following from ebay its a pain having to wait for it but its working out cheaper.

MIT Supreme Line Compact Universal Quad LNBF AK54-XT2BL about 35e

    and

    Torix 78cm about 40e

    all delivered

Would this be a good set up?

I got a 60cm Triax from satellite.ie with quad LNB - The only time I've had any signal disruption was last week for 5 mins - when the dish was completely covered in snow due to winds straight into the dish - and even then it was still doing it's best to work - approx 50% strength. Never had any rain fade of note.

RG6 is made from aluminium foil (plastic paper) whereas others are proper copper which is better for signal loss etc. RG6 will do the job but if you are putting in wires, mayas well spend 20 euro more on a reel and get decent stuff

The better RG6 cabling has copper foil and shield.
I've used lots of RG6 cabling for various jobs and I've never had any issues with it.
I would avoid Rg58 though that Chorus used to use,its utter garbage.

fair enough but all rg6 I have seen is fair rubbish, ct100 or wf100 always seems lot better quality

The MTI is a good lnb but you might try sourcing a smart Titanium for the same or better price.

RG6 and CT100 are both very generic terms. There are many RG6 "family" cables. Some rubbish and some OK.

If they have same hydrophobic foam insulation, copper foil with copper braid and close to 1mm copper core, then they are essentially the same cable.

CTnnn, TXnnn, PFnnn are European common designations. RGn, RGnn started as US designations.

RG59 (75 Ohms) and RG58 ( 50 Ohms) have URM equivalents. They are not "rubbish" but families of cables often used as reliable patch cords due to multistranded inner core. They are just not suitable for long runs of UHF or L-band coax, but fine for long runs of VHF. Traditionally cable only was 45MHz to 470MHz, hence Chorus use of RG59 (not RG58)

A lot of the cheap dishes that are sold in Germany aren't built to withstand the high winds and weather our coastal waters throw at them. Especially for example the lidl dishes which are of a cheap sort like some on the German websites sell. If you pay a little more you will get a decent quality dish from some of the major websites. Saying that the lnbs have nothing wrong with them at all.

Secondly, Not sure if you'll get that shipped to Ireland for a decent cost?

I recently coupled a 60cm dish from SATWORD.IE (€25) with a SMART Titanium Quad LNB from ebay for GB£25 inc. delivery.
No signal loss in wind, rain or snow.

Not a bad price then al in, but the bigger the dish the better quality build wise it needs to be to withstand the elements here in out lovely sunny isle!

The cheaper 60cm dishes available on german websites are not to bad (As the arm is shorter) but i now for a fact the cheaper 80cm dishes are not great at all!

The dish arms are very slim and are extremely weak! Some german websites actually state this underneath their cheaper dishes!
