Is it okay to hold a poker night in a pub?

Is there any legislation or laws I should be aware about?

Any advice or information would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

gambling for money without a licence is!

    gambling for "worthless" chips isn't!

I always thought that once the house wasnt making any money from the game itself then it was allowed.

If anyone asks for a deck of cards, I can give them a deck, but no money is to be used to buy chips and no money to be handed over in order to play the game... just keep it friendly?

    Hi Folks,
Is there any one that can tell me the craic with pokers etc in pubs in Dublin are they allowed or not or do I have to go to Bray ..Seems to be confusing/grey/ legislation on this one?

Section 9 (3) covers it, and it's why Poker has become very popular.

Basically, you're not allowed play *with* money, you are allowed to play *for* money. You're allowed to charge to play the game (standard buy-in) and there's no problem with someone taking the money at the end as a prize. But it would seem that whoever's organising the game is not permitted to take money from the buy-in.

However, I'm not 100% sure on, "the promoter (if any) derives no personal profit from the promotion of the game."

I can see how a pub would make money on beer and the like, but if the promoter can't take a cut of the buy-ins, they must be reliant on advertising?
