Languages at NUIG

I've posted this question in one of the other forums but perhaps more people will see it here.

I've applied for Arts in NUIG with the intention of doing two languages (French and Spanish). I'm just wondering if many (or any!) of you have done the same and whether or not it would be recommended. Would the workload be overwhelming, etc?

    Thanks in advance!

No the workload wont be overwhelming! I mean a semester system, hardly any texts to read... and pressure to pass the laziest of feckers, a 2.2 is guaranteed! I wonder how they would cope with 20 literature texts per language + translations+ essays. God be with the days when the BA hons was not examined till the following Sept there was so much work involved! No wonder so many are having to go on the the MA now!

Hmm, well it clearly has changed since my day. I graduated in 2000 with a BA (Hons) in 2 languages through Arts. While its not overwhelming, it wasn't exactly easy either, although the fact you generally love your languages makes it easier. We generally had 2 literature courses per semester per language, 3 books for each, so that means about 12 novels per semester. Then you have translation courses, language classes, a thesis in each language, and inter disciplinary courses, there was plenty to keep us busy, but all very manageable.
