    Hello,
I'm new to this forum so apologies if this is misplaced or a boring topic etc...

I was wondering if anyone here who has done the round the world trip thing has any advice or good resources? I plan on going travelling for up to 6 months to maybe 2 or 3 continents. Can you get a deal on flights?
    Thanks!

Moved it for you. Have a read of the charters, they'll point you in the right direction. ;)

Yea, a few of us have done this, and many more are planning to leave in the coming months.

Read blogs, maybe thorntree or bootsnall.com. Also, look at the last few posts. People have mentioned good resources they read. I know they talk about them in the Thorntree thread, I just can't remember right now.

And specific questions? Where you going etc?

I know this isn't an easy question to answer to but I'm thinking about a four week round the world trip. Luckily my job is pretty secure at the moment and I'm not ready to quit in the middle of a recession, so a long holiday is all I can do.

I have a lot of friends who are doing the year in Australia thing and I was planning on going out to them in the summer for a few weeks and then take in Hong Kong and somewhere on the East Coast of the US on the way home.

Is it a waste of money trying to cram so much into such a sort time? I'd be travelling alone, except for the 20 odd days in Australia.

Thanks for response. I'm hoping to go to South America to do some volunteering for a month or so, and after that I have no idea!
I'm not sure if there's a kind of general route people might take from there? Has anyone here done some volunteering in a few places and would they recommend it or is it better to just do a bit and then travel around after?
I have scrambled together the money to go away for 6 months or so but I'm quite nervous at the thought of going away on my own for so long!
