Wireless networking a printer?

    hi there,

i have a SAMSUNG CLP-315W printer (part of the 310 series)
i have connected the printer directly to my Netgear Wireless router with the crossover cable provided.

Nothing seems to happen when i plug that in. The wireless light is on on the printer.

it's supposed to assign a new IP address other then the default of 192.0.0.192 but when i print out a status report it it's still 192.

on the network report it tells me that the "Wireless Information" is connected to another wireless network in my building as opposed to the one im using... how can that be if i've connected the cable to my own router?

also, how do i select my network? i can't install the drivers without the correct network so i can't change anything?

    cheers

I wonder why the printer needs a crossover cable?

Can you check the router status to see if it is properly assigning an IP address (not checking via the printer) ?

i wouldn't say it needs a crossover cable. I reckon they only included that so you could connect it direct to your pc and set it up. Try that maybe? Or a straight ethernet cable to your router.

It's all explained here. Took me a few seconds to find using Google....

Download this (manual, pdf) and do a search on DHCP. i would imagine you havent set up the printer to DHCP and therefor it will not pick up an ip address automatically.

Or set the IP address manually while the printer is connected to the router with a standard patch cable . Of course pick an ip address in the same range as your pc and router.

First try to get it working via "wires". Once that is working, knock yourself out and go wireless.....
