A friend of mine wants to sell stuff online. Any idea what kind of shopping cart's are available to .net developers, ones with visa card, etc...

Its a start up business, so there is no way he is going to buy something like 1000+ on something like this

Anyone have any idea's/experiences on what to use? It will basically be shirts, jackets, etc...

Irish banks usually require a dedicated server with a Verisign/Thawte certificate (not to mention having a registered business address).

You're better off using an external service and paying commission on every sale.

^ what Cantab. said about credit cards. There's a couple of Irish players in the market:

    and

For shopping cart solutions I don't actually know of any .Net based ones (which suprises me tbh) but I've heard that Magento is good. Its php based and opensource if that's any use to you.

If you do find a good .Net based solutions let us know.

There's Microsoft Commerce Server 2007, which is fantastic but pricey for a start-up ($20k+ for enterprise, $7k+ for standard ).

On the lower budget end there's some plugins for DotNetNuke which add catalog/shopping cart functionality, I've never used any of these though. They all seem to be in the $50-200 range.

I used Zen cart on a project recently and it worked well. Only set it up to accept Paypal which was very easy. I'm pretty sure you can install addon modules to allow CC payments but you'll need a gateway.

Best of all, this solution is free!
