My friend is a massive football fan and because of the way the economy is right now he can't afford to be paying for a subscription to see the Premiership games on Sky. He got sky out 2 weeks ago and he's already feeling the effects of no live 'footy' on weekends(Doesn't have any excuse not to travel to Mayo to visit his in-laws anymore:D).

I mentioned to him that he might be able to pick up the games on european FTA channels, is that possible?(100% legal of course). Or even a subscription that you pay for yearly not monthly, anythings cheaper than what he had. If so is there any companies in Ireland that can set you up with the satellite and reciever for a one off price?(links to site if possible).

    Thanks!:)

Sorry there is no FTA live premiership football anywhere. Subs for other packages via an agent won't be much cheaper than sky. ART do a package for about 200euro per year but it's in french.

Here are subs for many popular packs.

    Supersport on 16e 300pounds
    Sky Italy on 13e 1200pounds
    Nova Greece 13e 889pounds
ART sport only 13e 80pounds (eighty) FULL 96pounds
    Premiere 19e 729pounds

Again you'll need to buy a box to read these cards 150pounds approx. (tm9100 is my fav) so you can see it may be cheaper to have sky uk.

If you shop around you can get full package (Football, movies) sky italia for £139 including a receiver for a 3 month sub. You can then top up your sub after the 3 months. Most games are in English.

Supersports albania can also be got for a lot less than £300 per 12months. Only thing is no 3pm saturday games.

ART is not a bad package, if you can put up with french commentry or have another satellite feed in for 5 live ran through a PC with radio delaying software to sync up the audio to the video.

edit: Sky italia deal not available anymore, now £800 for 12months including receiver full package.

its not satellite but if you are stuck and really want to save money this site is the best one I have found for football streams http://www.atdhe.net/

Brazil v Italy on now crystal clear with no time lag.

Premier League is notoriously rare free to air. try Lider or Slovenia
