What websites have good information for evaluating tennis bets?

What is the general opinion on betting on the correct score v just betting on the winner?

Does anybody have minimum odds below which they wont bet regardless of 'how foolproof' the bet is and whats your thinking about this?

Is there certain tournaments are are to be avoided similar to football bettors avoiding cup games in favor of league games?

How much of an effect does the surface actually have on a match and would you use this information to disregard a bet rather than have the surface make you put on the bet you otherwise would not bet after weighing up all the other factors?

Is there much additional benefit of betting at the end of the first set on Betfair or are the odds usually too poor at this stage of the match to make it profitable?

Any other advice that you got through experience would be greatly appreciated.

Are the odds on most tennis matches too short to make a long term profit? 6 votes

There is a much better chance of making a profit betting on football.

There are few matches that offer value but you can make small monthly profits.

I think that you can make a profit from tennis bets especially from the early rounds of most tourney's - there is obviously no dead certs but it is very rare for the top two/three men/women to go out in the first/second round. The odds of course are always very bad but if you can get a good accum, it can work nicely.

I used to bet extensively on tennis. Its hard work though as there are a huge amount of variables that effect each and every game. Unfortunately I don't have the time to invest in it anymore as I still believe it’s the best sport for trading.

What websites have good information for evaluating tennis bets?
Tennis form is probably the best one (handy for links to streams and scoreboards too). The ATP and WTA sites are packed with stats too. Stats really can't be overemphasised in tennis IMO. The betfair forum, for all its faults, is a decent source. You'll pick up links there too

What is the general opinion on betting on the correct score v just betting on the winner?
I generally don't bet on correct score. Some players don't always give 100% throughout the game and if they're confident they'll win 3rd set they won't bust a gut to win the 2nd. Its even more true at GS level

Does anybody have minimum odds below which they wont bet regardless of 'how foolproof' the bet is and whats your thinking about this?
Nope. I'd back at any price if I thought it was overpriced. I've piled money into 1.05 shots before (in running). Worst loser was 1.20. I've also laid a 1.01 loser (for only a quid unfortunately)

Is there certain tournaments are are to be avoided similar to football bettors avoiding cup games in favor of league games?
Not really but I try and avoid betting against home town players. Like everything else, research is the key.

How much of an effect does the surface actually have on a match and would you use this information to disregard a bet rather than have the surface make you put on the bet you otherwise would not bet after weighing up all the other factors?
Surface is absolutely huge. Easily the biggest factor to consider. Not just whether rits clay or hard court but what type of clay or hard court it is. Some hardcourt's are very, very fast. Other's aren't so fast. Some carpet courts create spin that suits clay court specialists.

Is there much additional benefit of betting at the end of the first set on Betfair or are the odds usually too poor at this stage of the match to make it profitable?
Easy game is different. You should weigh up everything and if you think you're getting value then back, if you think the play is vastly overpriced than lay him/her and play it that way.

Any other advice that you got through experience would be greatly appreciated.

Research si the key. Records between the two players is massive. Records in that tournament. How long since they last played? Where was last tournament? Whats the next tournament (if they've won the Swedish open 3 times ina row and that’s coming up thye may be thinkiong about that…)

Oh and avoid WTA if you're only getting into it. Its very volatile. If 2 russians are playing you could lay boht at 1.6 and make profit in most cases ;) but try tracking scores and prices for a while before dipping into that market

Plenty of good advice here, I'm not as committed as Dodge but I consistently profit from early round accum's. One thing I'd add is beware of Davydenko, especially early doors, he's burned me too many times!
