Was your speed upped lately by any chance? What are your line stats? Sounds as if your SNR could be low.

Line stats please like you were asked.

Also unplug every phone sky box etc , even the filters, and plug only the modem straight into the main socket and see .

don't be so quick to blaim eircom, you have to have the filters all set up and your problem sound more like a wifi problem

thats what he wants, it has all the info on your connection
go into it again and post back

questions
1) when the net disconnects what lights are on on the router, are they on or flashing on off??
2) is the speed okay with the cable?
3) did the 1mb line ever give problems
4) on router page whats... speed xxxx/xxx (kbps)
5) on router page whats...Line Attenuation xx/xx dB
6) when http://www.boards.ie"]www.boards.ie doesn't work does http://89.234.66.107 (note down for when it goes again)
7) you said you can't detect a wireless network now, can you see if you can pick up a neighbours? (antenna cable might be damaged in the laptop hinge)

sounds like either wifi interference (baby monitor?, sky resender?) nearby

other reasons for disconnects is phone filters

low speed could be from somthing downloading on your pc, updates, torrents, limewire.

if the 1mb was more stable then the 3mb line and you ring eircom to complain , they will just put you back on 1mb

I'd say your not being assigned an ip address

Assign it manually on your laptop

Right click on your wireless connection, go to properties

Go to Internet Protocol(tcp/ip), click properties

Click use following ip address, enter

192.168.1.100 (IP address)
255.255.255.0 (Subnet)
192.168.1.254 (Gateway)

Assign DNS server manually
192.168.1.254(DNS Server)

Click OK

Should work then

ringing up and being nasty to someone who like everyone else is just trying to get his/her bills paid is disgraceful behaviour

op has not answered any questions, and is not tech savvy as he said, but he did mention that he can use the ethernet cable so i'm 90% sure that its a interference problem

Exactly, plus your problem will not be resolved. They will run you through every single trouble shooting step, say they are escalating then when you call a week later there will be no record of the call. Be nice and things go a lot smoother.
