    Hey Folks,

    I was wondering if anyone has any experience of the Lidl Assessment Centre. I am aware that the job has crazy hours, and all that, but still osunds interesting!! But i was wondering if anyone has any info on how the Assessment Centre runs. What is entailed in the group work, or which aptitude test they use?

    Any help would be great,

    Sorry but all I can advise is stay away from Lidl. They have a dire reputation with staff both in Ireland and Germany. Good luck if you go ahead but be warned!

    If you are stuck for a job you cant be that fussy. i have applied to lidl aswell. EP have you learned anything about the assessment centre procedure?

    I did the Lidl centre recently - here is a breakdown of it

    1. Presentation - can be either about yourself or a topic

    2. Written Test - easy really they just asked what skills a manager should have and they want to know what you think the job entails (read spec!)

    3. Aptitude Test - Very Very hard have to say (and I'm alright at these things usually) verbal, numerical reasoning, sequences and series etc only 20 minutes to do 8-10 questions so it makes it that much harder - they cant really expect everyone to get them all right surely - my advice is to hone in on the questions you are good at and get them right - if you have time move onto the ones you find more difficult and give them a go.

    4. Group negotiation/discussion - Give you a scenario and working in groups you have to figure it out - its less about solving the problem and a whole lot more about working together as a team i.e they are checking your leadership, negotiation, listening skills basically. A girl who was in my group tried to bully the rest of us and basically have her own way but we put that b*tch in her place quick. Anyway at the end I cought a glimpse at the supervisors clip board and this girls name had a big line through it (along with a few others mind) so the key word here is TEAMPLAYER.

    I did alright overll but some of the aptitude test was really tough and I ended up guesing the answers. That plus the fact there was 25 people going for 2/3 jobs meant I walked out less than confident about getting any further but you never know. They are supposed to be c*nts to work for and I'm not desperate for a job(yet!) so I wont cry about it when the inevitable PFO letter comes through the door.

    PS - The district managers are given daily, weekly and monthly sales targets to hit so this job is serious pressure and I'm guessng they would have no problem sacking people who are not up to scratch. The package is great but the long hours and serious pressure would put me off - I've been in and out of sales for years but this crowd take KPI's to the xtreme

    In relation to my post above I actually got called for interview (i.e. 2nd round) will post how I got on after - proceeding with a lot of caution with this lot. My mate started working for Aldi last week and they made him sign a contract that said they could sack him with '24 hours' notice over the next 18 months if he f*cks up (employment legislation in this country says once you work for a company for 12 months all your rights kick in and they have to give you verbal and written warnings prior to sacking) but looks like Aldi and Lidl think they can just make up their own laws:rolleyes:

    I am going to the assessment centre next week - can you tell me how many people you have to do the presentation to - is it to the full 25 people in the group or a smaller number? Would appreciate an idea of what to expect

    Everything is done in front of everyone, including up to 6 members of Lidl staff who are there to take notes on everyone. Good luck to you, it is handy imo, just be yourself and be relaxed.

    I did an assessment in Charleville during the week, it was odd. 8 of us in there, started of with introducing ourselves to the group (just a couple of sentences) then a presentation by one of the two Lidl guys on the company. An aptitude test, which definitely wasn't worthy of the 20 minutes allotted, and then a tea break. Afterwards, a warehouse tour (place is fcuking huge!) and then a questionnaire, followed by questions for the Lidl lads. We were supposed to be doing a group exercise, but they didn't bother because "the interaction in the group was pretty good." So I dunno what to make of it, due to hear about it on Wednesday, but I'll be proceeding with caution as well, as I hear dire things about the company.

    Do yourself a favour and walk away now - the nazi party is still alive and well - it just calls itself Lidl these days.

    Hi Doc. Did you get a positive reply?

    I've met about 8 people who are doing/done interviews for lidl recently. Was wondering if anyone has been hired yet!

    Hi ya,

    Just after seeing the post and find it really interesting. I have been called for an assessment centre for districit manager role. Just a little freaked out that I am gonna have to get up a do a big presentation in front of a load of people.

    Has anyone had any success out of any of the Assessment Centres?

    Is the districit manager role crazy?

    If anyone has any feedback I would really appreciate it.

    District Manager role is only suitable for you if you are single and have no family. You need to be fit, eat healthy and be mentally strong as an ox. I ran so many TDM's out of the company for complaining (not something I'm proud of) about the hours, the hours and the hours.
    Its a great learning experience, good money and can be a bit of crack. Just remember, its dog eat dog in there.
    The guy who is now MD of Lidl Ireland is only 35, started as a trainee manager, then worked his way up(with a small stint in a competitor).
    There are great opportunities but just be ready for a tough job role.

    I went for a job in Lidl once. Got onto the third round interview. I got the feeling that they wanted to own me. I was just about to get married so I basically told them I wanted a job that respected family life/work life balance.

    I didn't get the job :D

    Got to the second round, and went down for the gander - I'd pretty much decided that I wasn't going to take the job even if offered as, well, 8 out of 10 cats can't be wrong. I was able to use the opportunity then to ask all the awkward questions I wouldn't've been able to if I wanted the job.:D

    It didn't go down well, especially when I asked about the hours - basically they said no, 48 hours is all you have to work, then said unless... but... realistically... and a whole lot of other provisos that added up to the 70+ people are talking about. Their key phrase was "if it was your own business you'd be prepared to put those hours in" - I said that the difference was it would be my choice, and I'd get to pick my own breaks and so on as well. Above all, they really gave me the impression that I may as well forget about any semblance of a family life whilst on the payroll, and leave any humanity I had at the door because I'm expected to be just as big a prick to those in my store.

    They say you can't put a price on a soul - well, Lidl reckon it's worth €36.5k, rising to €44.5k depending on experience. Like most things in Lidlworld, it works out cheap...:rolleyes:

    i worked as an ops mgr a couple of years ago which meant covering shifts etc there was a high turnover in staff. and on average i did 60hrs+ a week
    then i had the md for ireland tell me that the company wasnt getting there moneys worth out of me.

    i ended up using my back up qualification and leaving havent look back since.

    example 36500e pa / 52 = 701 per week / 70 hrs = 10 euro per hr a person working in burgerking/McD gets paid around 11.50 per hr
    the industry i work in means you have to be a bit flexible even were i work now i have often done 15 hr days but not everyday.
    salary looks good on paper but if your doing crazy hours every week it doesent pay

    Completely take your point, but just in the interests of accuracy I believe this is closer to €9 per hour?? :)

    I have to attend an assessment centre this week for a store managers position.

    I google "Lidl Assessment Centre" and found this thread, very shocked i must admit!

    Would the assessment be the same for me as it was for ye? What hours would a store manger have to work a week?

    Just remember that there are only 168 hours in a week, so they won't expect you to work that amount. Just most of it. That's the hard cold truth.
    If you are single and need money, then it could be for you.

    most of these companies give you a title like store/ops mgr pay crap(but hey we will provide a company mobile which means you can be contacted 24/7).

    My advice to anybody going for a job in Lidl Would be to take it as a last option...
    The hours are very intense and the 60+ hours people have mentioned here are true..
    I have been working for them for the past 6 months and i don't know where the 6 months have gone... all my life has been is lidl lidl lidl

    there is alot of pressure and you would regulary work 12-15 hours day and you work hard every minute of that day...

    i have witnessed bullying of managers and certain senior managment trying to force people out of their jobs... i have not worked with another manager yet who was happy in their job and all of them advised i get out as soon as i can so i am taking the advice...

    i have been pretty stresed out and run down for a long time and coming home being moody and awful to family


    Good luck to anybody going to the assessment centre it is easy enough just be aware that they are looking for somebody with good team work and communication skills....

    Hello there,

    I'm a guy from Germany and now I've an interview at Lidl Headquarter near Dublin.

    There's a written aptitude test. Is it very difficult?

    So I've to travel from Germany to Ireland for an interview with test. Does anybody circa know how are my chances? Its a job for purchasing with knowledge of the German language. I'm a native speaker.

    Should I go there? Or is it not to recommend?

    How are the conditions of employment???

    Pls give me a help
