Came out after all the snow and ice to the wife's car and lo and behold the front wipers wont budge!
No its not that they were turned on when stuck to the windcreen or to clear a shedload of snow!
No the motor seems to be turning and the fuse is fine but nothing happens at the wiper spindle!
Renault garage says to bring it in and they will fix it €€€€€€€!
    Anyone got any ideas?

So if you take the wiper arm off the spindle is not even turning, even though you can hear the motor? Sounds like a linkage has gone between the motor and spindle in which case it could be a bit of a job to access.

I am not sure what is going on because there is a beeping sound of an alarm coming from the area underneath the trim where the linkage is located when I try to turn on the wipers
