So what signs will you use, when deciding to get back into the market.

    US unemployment?
    US GDP?
    EU GDP?
    Interest rates?
    Gold prices?
    Bond spreads?

I am getting back in now in a very small way......darkest day before the dawn. *crosses fingers*.
Looking at dividend paying shares/funds in utlities and emerging markets.
Now for some bizzare logic, the worst possible time to invest was just before the crash, so this is a least the second worst time to invest :D.

When the corporate debt levels come back to about 90 - 95 - buy the indices.

Its not a averaging in buy and hold market , if in be prepared to dump be careful during April. If you look at 1929/30 there were some great tradable bear market rallies but it was 1932 before there was a meaningful bottom.

What we are going through now is more comparable to 1974 than 1929 imo

Could be, I had 3 charts in front of me as a guide last year , 29 , 37 and 73. they all told the same story so I guess we will have to see which is the most applicable for this year (if any). All have their merits 37/38 is interesting as you can tie in the dot com with 29 and the commodities run up was similar to 37. 29/30 is possible due to the similar credit aspects, I'd need to look at 73 in a bit more detail but there wasnt a global banking problem but seeing below its not pretty for this year either
