    Hi
Each state has its own nursing board and maintains its own register for all nurses. So you have to register to practice in the state that you intend working in. In general there is a shortage of psyciatric nurses in Australia. If you pm me I can give you a lot more detail esp regarding Queensland and Victoria

Each state has their own registering body, although it is currently in the process of becoming nation wide. So depending on where you want to live, will decide which Nursing Board you need to register with at the moment. And we are desperate for nurses, so you shouldn't have too much problems finding work. Just FYI QLD and NSW nurses are the highest paid. If you need any info on Victorian Psychiatric facilities, I'd be more than happy to help.

    SA Nurses Board- http://www.nursesboard.sa.gov.au/
    WA Nurses Board- http://www.nmbwa.org.au/
    Tasmania nurses board- http://www.nursingboardtas.org.au/

Anyone Know how you's stand as a newly qualified nurse getting a job in Austrailia or Canada. -Mental Health.

English Test (OET)(For all nursing) i think is required for Austrailia -You can sit it in Dublin cost 182- and appartently native Irish people haved failed it.

Do you need a number of years experince as for working in Canada.

Do you need to sit a test as in the States to register.Anyone Know

Are registration rules different in each each District Austrailia - Canada. Can you be qualified in one state an not another?

Lots of questions ,I know .Can Anyone help :D

Hard to find Info specific to Irish nurse on Ozzy sites.

To work in Australia you will need to register with The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency APHRA http://www.ahpra.gov.au/
I don't know if they require you to sit a test but in my experience most nurses from Ireland or UK didn't have to, but if you contact them I'm sure that they will be able to advise you
Feel free to contact me if you need any further assistance

Note that organising a visa to work in Australia is a separate process from registering as a nurse. You need to do both (unless by some chance you already have Australian or NZ citizenship).

Found below for people like me who are nearly qualified and considering travelling. If travelling england Austrailia for experince ,Canada if you have min 1 yr experience .Read an interesting piece on a blog by an Irish Doctor saying there were constant going away parties for HSE staff in his hospital leaving for Aus /canada due to pressure and conditions in Ireland.

One more thing anyone know if you need to use one of those expensive migration agents or can you precess yourself.?Prefer to stay HSE but with moritorium:mad:

UK and Ireland - Newly Qualified Nurses in Australia
As a newly qualified United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland Registered Nurse you are able to come to Australia to work. Australia recognises United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland qualifications and values your skills and training, and has always embraced nurses from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Each State in Australia has specific requirements for registration. The qualification, diploma or degree, and the institution where your qualification was awarded, will determine the requirements for submission for Registration in an Australian State/Territory.
As at 1 July 2010 a National Registration and Accreditation Scheme will commence. This will see the introduction of a single national registration. At this time it is not known how this will affect new graduates, however it may be that the higher standard/ criteria where you are required to have a specified period of experience in the qualification prior to registration will be asked for.
As this may be the case it is advisable for new graduates and those who will graduate before this date to prepare and lodge application for registration as soon as it is possible.
Since 1 July 2009 all States now require you to sit an English test, no matter how good your English language skills are
