DIY Parking sensor fitting question?

Sorry to go off topic a bit, but why would you want to fit after market parking sensors to a car**??? surely if a person finds reversing a car that difficult, then it shows they are not good drivers, maybe investing in advanced driving courses would be better....

** excludes vans and trucks.... I do see the point on vans and trucks

Parking sensors can warn of obstacles that are hidden from the driver's view.

I think it would depend on the car.

    Thanks biko for that guide.
I don't need a lecture from you about my driving robtri. I only asked a question about fitting them. Smartasses like you aren't much help to this forum.

I didn't lecture you on your driving, I was making a reasonable comment in my opinion, money better spent elsewhere.....

I think of parking sensors as an "extra" and not an indication of someones driving ability. I have had them on a previous car and they make the parking process a little easier. Especially handy on cars with poor rear visibility.

    OK, fair enough.
But they are not expensive, around €70 - €80.

Just remember they only protect you from yourself, and not other drivers. Personally I can't see kits like this lasting the life of the car before the sensors break/malfunction/fall out or give false readings.

Folks, does anyone know is the 'antenna' type sensor works. See example here :

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/No-Drill-No-Holes-Rear-Car-Parking-Reverse-Sensor_W0QQitemZ170250020249QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item170250020249&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1689%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

In theory it looks a neater job in that you don't have to drill four holes in your bumber, just stick the antenna on the inside of the bumper. But I wonder if they are as effective.

Anyone got experience of this type.

I had a similar set fitted to a Qashqui for the OH. The bumper will need to be drilled, so it may need to be removed. You have to remember that you can not see what is behind the bumper, so taking the bumper off would be neseccary, otherwise you may fit the sensor to the bumper and be unable to re-fit bumper tot he car....

I got Sound Decisions, Clondalkin to fit, cost around €100.

As for peoples driving ability and having parking sensors, sure they probably said that when wong mirrors were introduced....

First part of another installation guide.

This type costs £18stg on ebay or what looks very similar to the link in OP. It looks like you dont have to remove the bumper but it may be awkward to fit without removal and also possibly hit other wiring.

I fitted a reversing camera and 2.5" lcd in the jeep a few weeks ago...absolutely fantastic for parking and lining up trailers exactly! Cost me 70 euro on ebay and took about 2hrs to fit.

I had a set fitted to a Santa Fe. Main reason was everytime I sat into it forgot it was the Missus's car and did not have them.

I have a car with factory fitted ones.

Think of it as a premium on you insurance. If you reverse into someone/thing it will cost a lot more.

Mine were pricy but look as if they were factory fitted. ICE in Ranalegh did it.

    Cost 300.00
