Addition of prefixes for this forum?

I've started a thread in the Development forum to request Prefixes be added to this Bands&Musicians forum.

The way it'd work is ... if you're a guitarist looking for a band then you put the prefix [Guitarist available] before your thread title. If you're a band looking for a singer you put [Singer wanted] before your thread title, and so on and so forth...

There's a lot of traffic here (and from the best that I can tell) it's mainly people looking for musicians or looking for bands to join/start. A lot of the thread titles a messy and I think some kind of streamline could help. With this feature added//enabled you can then filter out threads using this Prefix thing. Have a look at the Development forum to see how it works.

If you've anything to suggest you can post in the Development thread here

I haven't thought a lot about it, but my first reaction is no. It is not needed. There is a search function and its a lot easier to mod from a spam perspective, phone numbers if all new threads are on the same page. But we can discuss it here. I might move this to feedback if you'd like so we can have a broader discussion.

    Cheers for the reply Papa.

This is a very busy forum (as I'm sure you can see) and having prefixes makes searching easier - look at the likes of Bargain Alerts and Development.
I posted it in Bands/Musicians as Feedback gets a certain type of crowd that just post there for the hell of it and I'm not sure if the folks who use Bands/Musicians would know about either the Development thread and forum or likewise for Feedback.

This thread isn't going to get the revelant input that's needed if it's in Feedback - just have a look at the feedback threads. I understand that it's your show and you're the one doing the cleaning up so if you want to move it to feedback , then please do :) I do note that as I reply, this thread was I think second last on the first page of threads.

I think it's a good idea, but there should be a prefix for Keys also.

Maybe the mods could make a poll to guage interest in it? :)

Papa, can you add a poll ? :)
    cheers

I think its a great idea. Would make my failing attempts to find a bass player a lot easier:D

Seriously though good idea, I think it would help a lot of people find what they're lookin for.

How many options would you like ?

My original suggestion was something like this :
    [B][INDENT][Guitarist available]
    [Drummer availble]
    [Bass available]
    [Singer available]
    [Other available]

    [Guitarist wanted]
    [Drummer wanted]
    [Bass wanted]
    [Singer wanted]
    [Other wanted][/INDENT][/B]

Then miju said maybe only 3-4 prefixes , I said that Bargain Alerts has about 13 and my suggestion is 10 (maybe instead of other, keys ?).

Anyway, we could just go with this :
(which I think is kinda half doing the job but better than nothing :))

    [Wanted]
    [Available]
    [Looking to start band]
    [Covers band]

I think it's a good idea. Maybe we could have the 10 prefixes as a trial run for maybe a month, see how it goes, and revise accordingly ?

Well obviously its a new idea which needs to be tested out first.

Prob shouldn't have too many prefixes cause things would just get messy. Could even start with just the two ie available and wanted and if it works expand to somethin like the ideas yourself and Miju have. Test it out like. I definitely think it would help people though.

I think the idea of prefixes is to tidy up and collate rather than cause mess. Of course there'll be problems if people don't use them but such is life - boards.ie probs wouldn't exist as it does if the Admin thought like that :)

Something which might not have been considered is that the search page allows you to show only threads with a particular prefix. If someone was looking for a guitarist, for example, all they have to do is select "Show threads with [Guitarist Available]" prefix, and their life is made that much easier.

    I know :)
I thought it was a given that everyone else knew that :o

Sorry, can't edit it as we can't edit posts more than 2days old.
Bump though, has anyone else anything to say about this ?

would having the location as part of the tag be practical? i've noticed that a lot of the time, the location is left out. lads reply with "where you based?" and nine times out of ten, the reply is dublin. :p

^ I'd be all for that. Not sure if it's possible though.

Anymore interest in this ? It's a bit hard searching using the search option there cause you gotta search for guitar, guitarist, bass bassist, drum, drums, drummer, singer, vocalist, vocal, vocals, synth, keys, keyboard, keyboards etc. etc.

I still think prefixes would help tidy it up.

    ye definately a good idea.

And age. I think age plays a big part in bands, as they would generally need to be around the same age. And it also gives some background on the poster as well.

    Just a thought :)

Ross did something on Adverts where there's an automatic list that comes up in the Cars for Sale section so that when you go to type in the box you get :

    Make/Model:
    Year:
    Mileage:
    Colour:
    Extras:
    Tax:
    NCT:
    Any Other Relevant Info:

And you just fill it in with any extra stuff at the bottom. One thing at a time though I suppose.
