Can someone advice on how good is Subaru Legacy AWD 2.5? Engine, performance & maintenance wise? what would be possible to get insurance on this on irish provisional? how much could cost? i know tax is way too high on this car. So would it worth buying this car?

Here's what Parkers have to say: http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/subaru/legacy-sports-tourer-2003.aspx

For what it's worth, Subaru owners tend to be a very loyal bunch.

The only diesel is the 2.0, and that only came out in 2008. Legacies generally have 2.0 petrol and Outbacks 2.5, although both were also available with a 3.0 petrol.

I have seen one on adverts.ie which is 2.5L petrol saloon 1998 model with asking price of 2100 euros.

Would it not make more sense to get a full licence before getting a car like this? Leggie petrols are supposed to ate petrol, road tax will be high for 2.5l and on top of all that you'll have prov licence insurance...

AWD is a big plus with these cars. The recent icy roads have highlighted this but I also find that stability control kicks in VERY late (presumably because Scoobys are drivers cars). You'd need to be driving like Seb Loeb to set it off as far as I can see...
