I have to get a garda record check for a new job.

Whats the quickest way of doing this? I live in Dublin but I am not from Dublin.

You cannot request the Garda check yourself. It has to come from the company. Also, the company has to be registered with the Garda Central Vetting Unit in Tipperary.

This was my understanding as well and if your employer does not know this chances are s/he is an A@@ Ho@@. I hope the job is good cause I wonder how perfect your employer is.

Its non of his business about your past unless your getting a job in brinks and your a former bank robber( You get the jist) in whick case your employer would be registered.

But if your getting a job selling/buying or forgive me all but just labeling boxes or something just tell your boss your a model employee

You can apply yourself to the Garda Central Vetting Unit at Racecourse Road Thurles Co Tipperary. There is a fee involved. Check nout the Garda web site www.garda.ie. Just say you need to know for your own information what is known on Garda records about you. They will not issue to third parties under normal circumstances so you must apply on your own behalf. Good luck

Mods, I moved this from the Dublin City Forum.

Throw it back over if it doesn't belong here.

    Regards.

It was rightly stated above that the organisation must be registered and it is them who apply on your behalf, you get a form from the company sign it and give it back, the results will be sent back to the company/organisation also. If you want to see a copy of the results, the liason person within the organisation will copy it for you.

Under Data Protection act 1998/2003, you have the right to access personal data held on the garda computer, to do this you must fill in a "data access request form" and send it to the garda criminal recordds office, also in the same place as vetting unit. This will cost you 6.35. The form for this procedure is attached

just to clarify a few points.
If you are working with children/elderly etc you need to have clearance from the garda vetting unit and is applied for by your prospective employer. if you are travelling abroad and need a police certificate for a visa, you will be able to get this from your local station in a couple of weeks.

    Hello,

I will be working with children abroad so I guess I need a police certificate.

So the quickest option is just go to the local police station in Dublin?

    Thank you

A police certificate is only issued for visa purposes, it won't be issued for a job.

Exactly. And even if it is a foreign company, they need to register with the vetting office to get the appropriate background check. Only they can do this. The vetting office will not deal with individuals.

Should be no more than 10 working days. Any longer and I would be ringing the District Office of the District HQ
