hi. i jusy lost my job last week and i have a few questions...

i was just wondering how often you need to sign on at your local office for Job seekers benefit and also if you need to collect it from post office or if they put in your bank account?

Also i am going on holiday to the US for a month. i booked the holiday 6 months ago and its all paid for and i have saved up spending money. will this affect me getting Job seekers benefit? as i will be out of the coutry fir almost 1 month

    many thanks

You are only entitled to 2 weeks holidays a year while claiming social welfare.

Also, under the new rules you must sign on at your local post office once a week.

You are entitled to 12 days holidays a year - but you need to give at least 3 weeks notice to your local dole office. Your payment will be suspended for the period you are away, and you will get the arrears when you return.

You still have to sign on once a month, but payment is sent to your nominated post office weekly.
