Hi Everybody, I havn't posted on 'motors' before but I'm well aware of the help and advice that can be found here from other threads...
The front passenger door outside handle won't open the door on my 06 Passat!
It opens from inside no problem! I'm putting it down to the handle being tried as the car was being unlocked but I've tried numerous different combinations of holding the handle open and locking and unlocking the car and nothing seems to be solving it....
    Is it something more serious????
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    smallfry

I'm not sure of the handle setup on an 06. But the previous model had a small bowden cable that connected the handle to the lock. Assuming it's a similar setup this maybe the problem......?

EDIT : I just checked on vagcat and the current model Passat is not listed yet so I can't post a diagram but heres the setup on the previous model. The cable is item no.8 and connects from the handle (the part you pull to open) to the lock.

Cheers, I fear it may take a visit to a dealer to get it sorted if thats broken.....

It's a DIY job but only if your fairly confident you can do it. The lock needs to be removed to attach a new cable (assuming that's the problem) and to remove the lock you will first have to remove the window and the window mechanism.

Maybe try a decent indy repairer which will be a fair bit cheaper than a main dealer unless you still got some warranty cover.

Longshot here, whats the chances of items 3 or 4 in the piccy above being loose. Had the same problem on an wayyyy older passat but one of those two items (probably the top one) have a lot to do with locating the outer handle in a tight position.
