There is already a thread on this. Only 4 are performing tonight. Obviously the best tonight goes through to the final and we have the same next week until they have all the finalists. I think that's how it works. Very strange system.

    Anyway...

The system gets stranger when you look at how the votes are handled:

Judges award points to each act "which makes up half of their score". The voting public then call in to determine the other half. "Fair Enough", I say, "gives the judges a chance to influence the vote a little but has a public twist as well, could be interesting...".

So, at the end, everyone is pretty close with scoures in the range 29-33 out of 40. Not much in it. Then what happens? They convert that to a 5/4/3/2/1 score. Completely unfair. They immediately take a close run thing and virtually eliminate the bottom act as they cannot possibly win.

    What they should do:
Judges score act out of 50.
TV Audience votes are expressed as % of call ins and divied by 2. This gets added to the Judges score and each act ends up with a score out of 100. Virtually eliminates the chance of a tie and makes the whole thing a lot fairer as well.

(It's only on cause the kids watch it, honest!)

I absolutely agree. They are trying to copy Strictly Come Dancing's scoring format and it doesn't work in this case and is pretty unfair. I think this show would work much better without any judge's votes at all. I thought the point of having a judges vote alongside viewer's vote was to fully appreciate the level of technical skill - necessary in a dance contest, but not in a contest like this.

I've alway thought that public votes have ruined shows like this (cf Eurovision) and that a system where the "experts' have greater input is preferable. However, this is not it.

The other odd thing is that even though they have a 'backdoor' system, they are not going to put on a 6th semi-final, oh no, they are going to lock the judges in a room and let them come up with a concensus picking one of the five they have awarded second place to.

And the direction/shot selection was atrocious all night, and the sound was often non-functional.

    Not good tv.
