So, am thinking of going here on my own for a few days. I have been before but never alone. Do people think it'd be safe enough to travel to alone. . . I'm staying near Pigalle. Thanks

Was thinking of doing this myself. When I went inter railing a couple of years ago we ended up spending 3 days in Paris and stayed in a hotel/hostel type place in Montmarte not far from Pigalle. Managed to see a lot but not everything and have always wanted to go back. Anyways Pigalle itself is pretty seedy, it's literally one long street with Sex Shops and Strip Clubs on either side, I would recommend walking down the middle strip of the street towards the subway stop otherwise you'll be harassed every few metres to go to a Sex Show! At one end of the street is the famous Moulin Rouge, was tempted to check out a show but was put off by the expensive price and just up the hill is The Two Windmills Cafe from the movie Amelie and then further up is Montmarte which I thought was one of the nicest areas in Paris. If you don't go up the Eiffel Tower check out the view from Sacre Couer, it's amazing. Anyways I spent all of my first day wandering around on my own and it seems safe enough during the day as long as you stay around the tourist areas, I did end up getting lost around the North East part of the city which I was was told by a friend living in Paris was one of the dodgier spots, he said you could tell whenever you were there because pickpocket warnings would be announced on the subways when entering said areas. Compared to other European cities it seemed pretty safe and as long as you don't get lost and stay near the popular parts you should be fine.
