The advantage of the M4 is that the mags are cheap and plentiful and can also be swapped on the field if you're caught short during a game as most players have a rifle that uses them. Beyond that it depends in the brand and how comfortable you are with them. A JG G36c is one of the most reliable rifles in airsoft today. They're rock solid in every fashion. The JG MP5 is a brilliant aeg also, though with less accessory options.
Either way, I suggest you get a feel for them first, they all handle rather differently to each other.

Well thats down to personal preference. And I doubt Airsoftcrazy would have listed guns he doesn't like the look of. I think he wants to know which one is better performance wise.

Theres little difference performance wise, but as Dex already said the handle and feel very different from each other. So go to Eirsoft and have a look and see which one feels right. Or even ask people at a skirmish can you try out their gun, most would be more then happy to do so.

Another factor to consider is where your playing. If you plan on skirmishing at the warehouse then the MP5 would be better as its small and would be better suited to the tight conditions. Where as if your playing at HRTA or the likes then the M4 would suit fine.

I went for an MP5, simply because of the looks, however, after using all of these guns, I still prefer my good 'ol MP5!:D

Very true, though the range and accuracy is about the same across all three (unless you're looking at high end rifles too). The M4 size depends on the variant, ranging from the shortest (M4 CQB-R/S) being marginally bigger than an MP5A1, to the longest (M4A1 carbine). The G36c has a folding stock that brings it to a very compact size, while already being the same size as an MP5A1. The MP5 has several variants also, with the A1 being a full stock and the longest, the A2 being a retractable stock (also called the "J") and the K being the shortest with no stock and a shortened forend. The G36c is possibly the middle ground between the three with the best performance but the ability to add components to the rails while still being compact enough for use indoors without being too small for comfortable use outdoors.

The one thing I would say is avoid CA like a horrible, skin deforming plague. They'll cause you nothing but strife despite their seemingly "affordable high-end" price frame. Of those three aegs, the clone brands to look for are DBoys for the M4 or JG for the G36c or MP5.

The MP5 A1 is no stock, A2 is solid and the A3 is retractable. The A4 is solid and A5 retractable. But the airsoft A4 and A5 don't have burst modes.

Its different again for the K and SD series.

Yes, of course it is, my apologies. A brain fart on my part, I'm usually the one giving out that the A2 is called an A5 on boxes etc.
