How much does it cost to go to the high court for 3 days ?

someone once told me a day in the high court costs 100k. don't know if thats true but if you think about the minimum the claim has to be worth and paying costs on both sides its probably a big case so I presume an unsuccessful day in the high court costs 100k?

please correct me if I'm wrong

Impossible question to answer... if you win and get your costs, then it will possibly cost you nothing. There are so many variables such as how many counsel you have, etc. etc. Your question is a bit like asking how much does a 2 week holiday cost....

I think a lot of people are asking this question. Or more accurately "how could it POSSIBLY cost 100k for a day in the high court".

(Mostly it stems from the billion euro tribunals but lets not go there!).

Without prejudice and with no axe to grind, I've wondered the same myself.

It is your solicitors job to advise you of the costs in advance, that includes the characters you list above. So as usual with advice on this forum, talk to your solicitor and have it committed to writing.

There are some generic aspects of cases which are mentioned above, depending on the cause of action the case could see the costs paid by the other side. That depends on a number of factors - Lodgments, Success at trial, Settlements in your favour etc. It is a highly complex area but the costs are supposed to be made plain and straight to you at the outset of the action.

It can be said in general that 'costs follow the event' but a court has a discretion to do a number of things: No Order as to costs, Costs thrown away, Costs in the cause (if a derivative action is to follow), Costs taxed in default of agreement, and costs to the winning party - or following the event.

Always circumstantial.

It is impossile to answer that question without knowing the full background, eg the type of case, the complexity of the matters, the amount of pre-trial work (discovery, motions, correspondence, etc), how do you even know that it will last three days? There are about a million variables and I've only mentioned a few.. Talk to your solicitor
