I would like to do volunteer work cause im stuck in a dead end job which i hate and i dont know what i would like to do as a career, so i would like to volunteer and hopefully find something i would like to do.

My heart was always set on working with animals, so that is my number 1 choice. Im registering as a volunteer with a volunteering centre but they have alot of volunteering vacancies and i really dont know what else i would like to do.

So i would like to ask, what work are you doing as a volunteer and do you enjoy it?

Hi lisajane, I do volunteer interpreting. I am fluent in Polish and English and that allows me act as a mediator in social welfare issues etc. I really enjoy it because I get a huge veriety of people with a whole variety of problems coming in seeking help. Not only do I get to practice in expressing myself articulately but I'm also getting a good feeling for the social servces provided by the government, etc. etc. In the past Ive also done volunteer work for the homeless- cooking warm meals, and distributing, etc. Very gratifying!

    good luck with your search!

I work in Smithfield in the Capuchin centre working with the homeless. It is good fun, get to meet new people and I get the opportunity to give back to the community. Sometimes it is sad as people there do not have a lot. I remember one day a guy left his dunnes stores plastic bag behind with everything he had, he was distraught. Looking everywhere for it. I felt so sorry for him. There is another man, who is blind, who needs someone to give him salt in his hand, sugar in his tea and to guide him to his favourite seat. It feels so good to be able to do such simple things for a man who, otherwise, would be lost.

I have registered with the special olympics too, who are situated in Clondalkin. I have not started there yet, but it seems very good. I do this for myself too as it adds to my experience and CV. It might seem selfish to some but I think I am still doing my part. :) They give training on events managment. They require volunteers to do admin work which the fulltime workers didn't get a chance to do, nothing too dificult.

I have also registered with another place, I cannot remember the name, but I think it is mountain meitheal. Excuse my inaccuracies. It involves planting trees in the mountains at the weekends, it's all I know about it. I would love to work with the elderly and work with animals, but unfortunately a lot of these companies do not offer travel pay. As I am on social welfare I cannot afford to travel a lot.

I think it is great for people to give something to those less fortunate. Although I have very little I know I have a lot more than a lot of people out there. Best of luck op. I hope you find something that suits you. If you are interested in what I do, drop me a PM and I can give you more details.
