    Hey all,

Just wondering.. If i bought a 2TB hard drive, is there much/any chance of it randomly dying and taking all my memory with it?

I'm looking to get a 2TB hard drive, but getting a little worried that i might be very unlucky. If i did buy one, and it suddenly stopped working one day, is there anything i can do with it? (ie; are there any stores you can bring it to to get your memory back, or anything like that?)

Sorry if this is a bit of a stupid question, but genuinely curious.

Thanks to anyone able to help :)

You can always get an data recovery program. That means that if your drive ever fails you can use it to get back some data. You can also use it to recover data that you actually deleted as well. (I use R-Studio but there may be better ones out there) If the data is really important then I suggest CD or DVD backup periodically.

Set up a raid if you need redundancy.

Probably just be easier on me to buy two of the Hard drives. get another one at a later stage and keep copies of things on that?

Don't fancy burning 100s of GBs to DVD discs. It'd take forever :(

Yes. A drive should last at least a couple of years with average use, but they can (and do) die at any time, through misuse or bad luck.

Never use any drive as a single point of storage for any important data.

Dependin on your pc I'd always recommend using internal drives, much more reliable, and maybe get 2/4 500gig drives rather than 1/2 1tb drives. This is from my own rather unfortunate experience!
